It doesn't get more basic than a date night at an Apple Orchard, but I don't even care. Ever since Kyle and I discovered Small's Fruit Farm located about 35 minutes northeast of Omaha 2 years ago, we've turned it into a tradition. There's a nostalgia I love about pulling up to the grounds that takes me back to going to similar spots with my family as a kid. Despite being able to see downtown Omaha from the top of the Loess Hills, you feel like you're hundreds of miles away from the busiest of life and it's the most peaceful feeling. Always trying to go on off-peak times, we headed towards Small's Friday evening after work and were one of only 2 couples on the back orchard. We brought along our own basket, snagged a ladder, and started down the aisles. The lighting was perfect, the air was cool and crisp, and the apple trees were still filled with thousands of options! I'm a fan of all kinds of apples but always find myself picking the perfect reds while Kyle goes for the lighter options and usually ends up climbing way up high to make his selections. We try to divide & conquer the best trees, but I tend to let him carry the basket! :)
