I have a major crush at the moment and it's on the color navy. There are a few colors having big moments right now and this is definitely one of them! I love how it packs the same punch as black, being both neutral and strong, but also has a feminine edge that looks great on lighter, flowy pieces as well. Various shades of Oxblood, Army Green, and Mustard are all featured on my mood boards, but for some reason navy is really resonating with me right now. From the runway to street wear, navy is a trend that will be holding its own this season. Whether it's a simple accessory like this hat or a head-to-toe monochromatic look seen here on Kate Middleton, you really can't go wrong! Stocking up on a few basic foundation items in this flattering hue is a key way to work the color into your everyday life.

The Nordstrom Anniversary Sales is a great time to stock up on staples as well as snag great transitional pieces that are heavily discounted. This little swing dress was one of the most inexpensive, and so far my most utilized, pick up. Every girl needs a few easy pieces that involve little thought and minimal effort to achieve a put together look, and this particular dress works perfectly for that. Being incredibly comfortable and cut on top to allow it to be worn with a sports bra makes it a winner in my book! The dress comes in multiple colors but I went with black because it can move seamlessly between seasons just as well as it moves from Church to work to a girl's afternoon. I luckily snagged a few other simple dresses during the sale that have proven to be great investments AND make those mornings when you're contemplating which pants & top to pair together go so much more smoothly. This, this, and this are 3 of my favorite purchases.
Who would've thought that flares would be the IT thing again!? This comeback is yet more proof of how trends repeat, and reinvent, themselves in a continuous cycle. {If only I would've kept some of mine from the past I could've saved myself some serious $$!} My legs are loving the freedom these high-waisted, loose-fitting flares and welcoming the break from my more restrictive skinnys. Not to worry though, my skinny jean obsession isn't going anywhere. The trickiest part of master this belled style is finding the right length. With this particular pair, I am wearing them around some before I entrust them to my Tailor to hem the legs up a smidge. Nothing, in my humble opinion, looks more odd than too short an inseam in a flared silhouette. (I also really hate them being too long--the struggle is real) On the bright side 7FAM has released a new line of 'Tailorless' Flares for us 'slightly short yet not quite petite' girls that require NO alterations! How great is that!? Keeping a pair of denim's original integrity is my goal when I purchase so this pair is on their way to me as I type.
Growing up I attended a private school, until 5th grade, where uniforms were a requirement. Although at the time I despised wearing the same outfit as every other girl in class, I secretly enjoyed the plaid prints that adorned those dreaded knee-length skirts and ill-fitting jumpers. It is ironic to me that some of those items are now very much IN style. Oooh how times have changed! I cannot quite bring myself to wear the exact same blue-based pattern of my past but I can definitely jump on-board a more subtle plaid skirt ship. This mini with its black & white checkerboard print makes the look much more manageable in my mind; for me it is a bit nostalgic but perfect for the upcoming season. I'm really loving the flattering cut of this skirt and the fact that it is just long enough to be appropriate for any occasion. My one {tiny} complaint is that the material is a lot thinner than I expected. For some reason, likely based on the pattern, I assumed it would be much heavier. A pair of opaque tights with it will definitely be required come winter!
While this outfit may not be 50 Shades of grey, I am loving the way these 4 different shades and textures create a perfectly on-trend monochromatic look. This morning's chill start made layering a must so I started my look with this over-sized mohair cardigan. Instead of going a more predictable route, I added grey skinnys, soft D'Orsay pumps, and my favorite v-neck tee. Trying for a casual yet put-together vibe, this combo worked just right for a leisurely date of coffee & pastries with the hubby followed by a quick stop at a local farm-to-market store near our house. The heels may not have been the most practical shoe choice but sometimes we have to sacrifice comfort for the sake of fashion! :)
