Dress for success; that's what everyone always says, right? Well I think is true in all aspects of our day, including our workouts. When I workout the first thing I think about is function {i.e. good support, modesty, material}, but not too far behind that I'm also thinking about fashion. While you will NOT see me with a face full of make-up or my hair done at the gym--unless I came straight from work, then the hair is somewhat done but the makeup has been removed as much as possible with these--I will also not be in a ratty cut-off from an 8th grade basketball tournament. I believe that if I look good, I am more confident. When I'm more confident, I think it comes out in my workouts and allows me to push my limits.
I really try to keep my style original and unique to match my personality but there are some times when I can't help but follow what is popular. I spied this printed cape on the 'sneak peek' pages for the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale late this summer and immediately put it on my 'want' list. Once the sale went live, into my cart it went {along with a few other goodies} for my first-round purchase. When I got it in the mail a few days later and tried it on, I wasn't convinced. Kyle basically hated it, my sister was 50/50 in her opinion of it, and I felt like it sort of swallowed me up with its very oversized shaped. After wearing it around the house for a bit, I started to fall for how comfortable it was and the idea that it could be worn over any top/sweater or even utilized as a blanket come Fall. This particular cape has sold-out numerous times but is currently back in-stock. I would suggest that if you love it, don't hesitate and order it right now! :)
I'm all about looks that don't involve pants. #nopantsparty Don't get me wrong, I love my denim, but the first thing I do when I get home from a long day is take off my pants {and bra ;-) } off. Such a freeing feeling! Any time I can combine a lack of pants with and easy print and material, I'm all in. The simple red plaid pattern of this dress caught my eyes at first as I initially thought it was a top. When I realized it was actually a shirt dress I knew I hit the jackpot! The price-point is a bit high for what it really is, however its thickness and versatility talked me into the purchase. This piece is great for those Fall days that are cool but not chilly yet will also be a perfect layering piece as the temperatures continue to drop.
For today's #WorkoutWednesday post, I'm sharing a quick inside peek into the bandwagon I jumped on 6 weeks ago and am totally/completely obsessed with: OrangeTheory. While I don't feel that the OTF following is nearly as cult-like as the SoulCycle or Pure Barre classes I've taken {don't get me wrong - I'm a fan of both of those workouts, too!}, there is an undeniable 'team' feeling or that of unspoken camaraderie hits you the moment you walk through their doors. I've taken 13 classes so I'm no expert on this workout, however it is just too good not to share & I've already seen real results! The gym itself is set-up in 3 parts: treadmills, water rowers, and the weight room. In a typical 60-minute class, you will spend half of your time on the treadmills/rowers and the other half in the weight room. The treadmill work includes a variety intervals where we vary our speeds and inclines in what they call 'blocks.' Some of the blocks include switching from intervals on the treadmill to a specified distance on the rowers and then back {so tough!}. The weight rooms structure changes daily but includes a varied combination of free weights, TRX bands, body weight work (squats, lunges, etc.), and abs. Not a single class that I've taken has been the same and that is probably my favorite part. I never know what block is coming next, what MPH or % incline we'll be told to go to, how long we'll be at a certain pace, etc. and it keeps my mind--and body--guessing every time. For once I am not looking at the clock during my workout because you're never on anything for more than a few minutes max. Their methods are science-based and the instructors are certified, extremely well-trained, and clearly have a passion for fitness.Besides the constantly changing routines, I also am a HUGE fan of how they track your results and progress. Every person wears an OTF Heart-Rate Monitor and throughout the entire hour you're able to see where you are at personally in terms of your BPM, how many calories you've burned, and the % you are exerting. As soon as class is over, you are instantly emailed a copy of your results (the picture above are my results from Monday's class!). It's awesome to compare your numbers to previous classes and the fact I'm burning 600+ calories/class is both INSANE and AWESOME.
