People always say that short girls should steer clear of bulky items and oversized silhouettes--and in some instances I would agree--but as usual I don't exactly listen to what other people always say. Take scarves for example. Ok, scarves and knits. My motto on both of those items is 'bigger IS better.' Because I work in a freezing cold office and live with a husband who is as hot-blooded as they come, I am constantly layering my outfits and wrapping myself up in blankets galore so I love feeling warm and cozy in roomy pieces. When I noticed the print on this tassel scarf and it's large size, I didn't hesitate to add it to my cart. I actually think it's even prettier in person AND lucky for you it's about 60% off the price I paid! The day it arrived on our doorstep we were heading to my in-laws for the weekend so I immediately opened it up and used it as a wrap on the drive. PERFECTION. ASOS is one of my favorite places to shop for scarves because of their massive selection and affordable price tags. I am really loving the color combinations on this one, this neutral option, and the bold grid print of this.

Day 4 of the New Year and my Resolutions are going well so fingers crossed I'm creating positive habits and will maintain them! Over the weekend I purchased a second planner {this is the one I'm using as my work/daily planner} for blog stuff and I have loved filling in the days with upcoming posts, giveaways, and collaborations. January is going to be a very busy month for A Midwestern Mix. I won't say much more on the topic except that I'm incredibly excited: STAY TUNED for big things to come! :) Alright, alright, enough with the 'new me' stuff and onto what most of you probably care about much more than my ramblings...my outfit details. As most of you know from my Instagram and Snapchat (follow me: kristinkruse) posts recently, Kyle and I were lucky enough to spend 10 days with my parents and 2/3 sisters in Texas over the holidays. Besides absolutely LOVING getting to be in the same zip code as everyone, I was also a major fan of the weather. I mean how can I complain about it being in the upper-60s on Christmas Day!? Good weather meant that I was able to minimize my layers and maximize use of more Fall-like pieces. Enter this faux-leather jacket from SheIn. It packs an edgy punch despite its small $$ tag.
I'm a list-maker. I love few things more than seeing items get checked off my lists and I love the feeling of accomplishing the tasks written down. Regardless of size or significance, I breathe easier knowing I got things done. Yes, I know, I'm weird--my parents told me that a long time ago! ;-) So for those that know me, it will come as no shock that I've put my 5 New Year's Resolutions into list form via old-fashioned pen & paper. This year I really wanted to focus on attainable and easily measurable goals {Kyle noted that I used the 'SMART' goal-setting system, but I say I was just doing me. HA!} Many, ok maybe more like most, people find NY's Resolutions cheesy and a waste of time, but I look at them as an opportunity to reflect on the positive and negatives from the past year and consciously decide what you want to work on, change, and/or achieve in the upcoming one. When I was thinking on what I wanted my 2016 to look like my mind kept zoning in on things related to Faith, Family, & Fitness {yes, mind-blowing!} so from there I came up with FIVE:
